With a combined age of more than 240 years they’re hardly water babies – but boy can these lads swim.

Former Marine Nick Iddon, dentist Andy Middleton, retired accountant Alan Spier and retired psychiatrist Paul Gill swam 13 lakes, mainly in the Lake District, in just three days.

Andy, from Lodge Moor, Alan, from Ecclesall, Paul, from Lodge Moor, and Nick, who now lives in Bedford, make up the Tadpoles team.

In total they swam seven miles to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at Jessop Hospital in memory of George Gordon who was treated there, but sadly died after just 12 hours.

Oldest Tadpole Alan, aged 70, who swims regularly to keep fit, said; “Outdoor swimming is so exhilarating and you get a taste for it. But I have to say I have been warmer in my life.”
