A SHEFFIELD community swimming pool is due to close later this month for an upgrade designed to secure its long-term future.
King Edward’s swimming pool on Clarkehouse Road, Broomhill, was at risk of closing without the work.
It has been saved by trustees who have pulled together a £440,000 package of grants, donations and loans - 20 years after they started running the pool because the council could not afford to.
The pool will close after the last session on Sunday, June 17, for a new boiler, air handling unit and roof to be installed. It is due to reopen on Monday, September 3.
“Without the work, we would have been looking at closing for good from the end of this month,” said John Cawthorne, who chairs the pool trust.
King Edward’s is one of three community run public pools in Sheffield.
