Apparently defence chiefs, the Government and the EU are dictating that foreign steel will be used to build three Royal Navy ships and 589 army vehicles.
These will be built using “specialist” Swedish steel, despite 5,000 steel jobs being lost in the UK steel industry this month alone.
British steel production was a key to beating Hitler but is no longer good enough for our armed forces, it would seem.
Of course, yet again, EU rules ban the government from specifying where the steel is procured from, yet British workers are being made redundant while allowing imported steel to be used in building ships and vehicles for our armed forces, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Another case where our government should be telling the EU to get stuffed. I bet that’s what Merkel would say if she was in the same position.
