BUDDING chefs cooked up a storm in a school challenge to win cash for their cooking club.

Pupils from Greengate Lane Primary School, in High Green, swapped their pens for pans to cook a healthy Indian dish as part of the national Let’s Get Cooking BIG Cookathon 2013.

Paul Cross, deputy headteacher, said: “Learning how to cook healthy meals from scratch is so important.

“Cooking is a life skill that they’ll take with them into adulthood, and learning how to make meals that are not just healthy, but tasty too, is a big part of that.”

Parents and the community also went into the school to help youngsters whip up their dishes.

The school could win a share of £5,000 in the competition, led by the Let’s Get Cooking network of healthy cooking clubs.

Winners will be announced in May.
