Police are investigating the ‘suspicious death’ of a woman found collapsed in a Sheffield city centre street this morning.
The 60-year-old died in hospital after being discovered on the pedestrianised area of Waingate near the junction with Castle Street, at about 6am.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The investigation is in its very early stages at present but we are treating the incident as suspicious.
“Witnesses should call police on 101 quoting incident 111 of today’s date.”
The area around Waingate and Castle Street was cordoned-off this morning with police on guard at the scene.
Further details about the incident are due to be announced later today.
