A LEADING Doncaster councillor has expressed disappointment at the suspended sentence handed out to a 23-year-old man who admitted stealing a satellite navigation system from a car.
Ryan Licorice, of Riviera Parade, Bentley, appeared before Doncaster Magistrates charged with theft from a vehicle after he was arrested following a routine patrol by police and council officers.
He was given 12 weeks in prison, suspended for a year and must undergo nine months’ drug rehabilitation.
He was seen climbing over a garden wall in the Christchurch Road area and when questioned about his suspicious behaviour he denied doing anything wrong but council officers searched the area and found a satnav and a hammer on the ground nearby.
Coun Cynthia Ransome, cabinet member for communities said: “I’m glad we caught this thief but I’m disappointed the sentence does not reflect the inconvenience and damage he caused the people of Doncaster.”
