TWO shop staff needed hospital treatment after being sprayed with a noxious substance during a terrifying raid in Mexborough, near Doncaster.
Police in Doncaster today appealed for information about the robbery at Booze Barn on Swinton Road and issued CCTV images of two suspects.
The robbery took place on Thursday February 3 around 9.30pm but details have only just been released to the media.
Officers say two men, aged 50 and 59, who are not being identified, were working at the premises when the offence took place.
One of the men was outside when he was approached by two young males who assaulted him and then sprayed a substance in his face.
The men went into the premises and sprayed the other man in the face with the same substance in a bid to disable him.
It is not yet known what liquid was used but it caused them considerable discomfort. Both men needed hospital treatment for irritation caused to their eyes.
The suspects stole personal property from the two men but were unable to steal anything from the premises.
Staff at Booze Barn declined to make any further comment about the incident when contacted by The Star.
Police have released CCTV images taken from the premises and are asking anybody who may recognise the suspects to contact them on 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 1074 of the 3 February 2011 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
