Staff at a call centre in Wath-upon-Dearne were evacuated yesterday evening, following reports of a suspected chemical incident.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the suspected chemical incident at the Capita call centre, located in Brookfield’s Park on Manvers Industrial Estate, Wath-upon-Dearne at around 7.50pm last night.

Crews were called to the offices to reports of people sufferring the effects of nausea and eye irritation.

Appliance attended from Dearne, Cudworth, Mansfield Road, Mosborough and Central stations.

A SYFR spokesman said: “The building has been evacuated and fire officers are now inside monitoring the air quality to ascertain a cause.

“We are working with our partners in the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who are checking people over at the scene. Currently nobody has been taken to hospital.”
