GREEN Party councillors are backing plans for a new pedestrian crossing on Sheffield’s inner ring road - despite fears it could delay almost 2,000 motorists in morning rush hour.
Couns Jillian Creasy and Rob Murphy, who represent Central ward, say the plan, for Derek Dooley Way outside the Capita Hartshead office building, will help prevent a serious accident.
Sheffield Council’s cabinet highways committee has been recommended to approve the scheme tomorrow .
Coun Creasy said: “Workers have been dodging traffic at the junction of Derek Dooley Way and the Parkway and it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident.
“Capita is funding the crossing so the council doesn’t have to pay. And workers and visitors to a large business will be able to walk to and from the station and city centre in safety.”
