Electrical apprentice Clark Dixon, from Barnsley, has narrowly missed out on being named National Apprentice of the Year after topping the league in the regional awards.

Clarke, 25, works for NG Bailey and, despite missing out on the national title, was presented with a contractor’s tool kit and £500.

Gordon Love, managing director for Edmundson Electrical, sponsors of the Electrical Contractors Association Awards, said: “The standard of competition this year was exceptional.

“Clark should be incredibly proud of this achievement and we wish him every success in his future career.”

Sally McGuire, head of group learning at NG Bailey, added: “We have trained more than 3,000 apprentices over the past 40 years, and Clark is a shining example of the benefits of becoming an apprentice and the important contribution that this ‘home-grown’ talent can make.”
