INJURED soldiers received support from workers at a Sheffield firm who pedalled through the pain barrier to collect more than £1,000.

The 11-strong team from Sheffield Council’s revenue and benefits contractor Capita carried out the static bike challenge at Asda in Handsworth, taking it in turns on the bikes and also collecting from shoppers.

A Capita spokeswoman said: “The team raised money by aiming to cycle a combined distance of 700km - the equivalent of cycling from London to Edinburgh.

“A rota was in place so that all team members cycled for two hour slots over two days, accruing a total distance of 703.24km and exceeding their target.

“Five members of the public also volunteered for the weekend, to run a small table of merchandise outside the Asda store.”

A total of £1,100.45 was raised for the charity.
