Two super slimmers have been praised for their bumper weight losses after reaching the semi-finals of a national slimming competition.
Grace Peacock, from Barnsley, and Janet Jones, from Chesterfield, were among 45 women from across the UK and Ireland who made the finals of Slimming World’s Woman of the Year 2014 competition.
The ladies’ incredible transformations inspired fellow slimmers to nominate them in the annual competition – and, after sailing through the regional heats, both were in the running to win the prestigious title.
Grace lost an unbelievable 8st 9.5lbs after joining the Barnsley Slimming World group in February 2013.
The 21-year-old said she had tried losing weight numerous times before but nothing seemed to work for her.
“I’ve done pretty much every diet under the sun but I always found the plans that I followed too hard to stick to because they left me feeling hungry and deprived, which made me pretty fed up and miserable,” said Grace.
“Slimming World was completely different, I don’t have to go hungry, and I’ve never once felt like I’m missing out on anything.
“I can still enjoy all my favourite meals, from quick and easy things like baked beans on toast or a jacket potato with tuna right through to sitting down to a big roast dinner with all the trimmings with my family or enjoying a curry in front of the TV at a weekend, and lose weight.”
Janet also beat the bulge with the help of her Slimming World Group in Chesterfield, which she joined in June 2013 weighing in at 18st 10lbs.
Sixteen months on the lean 61-year-old now steps onto the scales weighing 9st 10.5lbs.
Janet said initially the challenge was daunting but her group made things less scary. I felt so self-conscious and was extremely nervous, everyone was really welcoming though and I soon made friends,” said Janet.
“Now I look forward to seeing everyone and how they’ve got on.
“We swap recipes and advice, and it’s a lot of fun.”
Neither Grace nor Janet clinched the Woman of the Year title, but both were congratulated by actor Will Mellor who attended the finals.
He said: “What these ladies have achieved is so inspirational, they have completely changed their lives and they look great.”
