SUPER-FAST broadband has arrived in South Yorkshire and it’s bringing jobs with companies moving super-fast to relocate.
The lightning fast Digital Region network service has the capacity to offer speeds up to 100Mbps.
Its standard internet speed is still impressive at around 40Mbps, for both downloads and uploads.
And companies wanting to take advantage of the latest digital revolution are moving into the county to be based at Barnsley’s new £10.5m Digital Media Centre.
The office space for creative, digital, media and technology businesses is amongst the first in the region to get the new service.
Internet marketing business Bigfoot Digital has moved in from offices in Wakefield.
Account director Emma Sharman said: “Our business needs fast, reliable, affordable broadband and that, combined with Barnsley’s central location, makes the DMC an ideal location for our business. This is going to be the place to be for the digital world, so that’s where we need to be.”
Solutions Consultant Terry Goff, who has also moved his Object Communications business to The Studio, said: “Moving to the DMC has helped put my business on a professional footing.
“I specialise in online collaboration systems for companies and organisations, so everything I do is over the internet. Having a reliable and efficient service that can grow with me will be essential as I develop my business.”
DMC manager Gareth Scargill said: “We wanted to make it simple and straight-forward for businesses in the Centre to gain the benefits of Digital Region. We take care of connecting our customers to the service and there is no long term contract to sign.
“We have also structured the service so it is affordable and flexible, allowing businesses to choose the type of service that best suits their needs.”
The DMC selected local ISP RiPWiRE to provide its connection to Digital Region.
RiPWiRE commercial director Quentin Birchall said: “We are delighted to be working with the DMC to provide super-fast broadband to the businesses in the centre. The DMC is becoming an important focal point for the CDI sector in South Yorkshire.”
