CHILDREN at a Sheffield after-school club were thrilled after a £3,000 donation from a supermarket.

Staff at Tesco on Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, handed over the cheque to the Sunsetters project, which provides after-school childcare in Jordanthorpe and Batemoor.

The money will help pay the rent for the club’s venue on Dyche Lane in Jordanthorpe, buy healthy eating snacks and start a new gardening project.

Store manager Jon Taylor said: “We’re delighted to support this great community project which provides an invaluable service to local families.”

The club has extended its opening hours to 6pm and offers computer classes, sports clubs, library trips and arts activities children.

Sarah Mitchell, from Sunsetters, said: “The parents that work in our community have trouble finding after-school care for their children and obviously want to know they are somewhere safe.”
