a SUMMER gala is to be held in Old Whittington later this month – with the theme for the event the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
It is to be held on the Village Green, High Street, on Saturday, June 30, between noon and 4pm.
There will be stalls, a petting zoo, a bouncy castle, funfair rides, a fortune teller, face painting, a stilt walker and performances from the Hallamshire Military Band, a harpist and Harthill Ladies Clog Dancers.
Money raised on the day will be donated to charity Chesterfield Sands, which supports those affected by the death of a baby, and Nenna Kind – a Chesterfield Cancer Drop-in Centre.
Simon Kendrick, chairman of the Old Whittington Gala committee, said: “Last year’s event was extremely popular with four local organisations benefiting from the day.
“We are hoping people turn out to help us raise funds for our two nominated good causes, during what promises to be an entertaining afternoon for the whole family.”
A flower festival at nearby St Bartholomew’s Church, a demonstration to show how clothes were dyed in medieval times at the Revolution House and a Titanic-themed well dressing will also be available to view throughout the day.
