Autumn is closing in – but in one Sheffield suburb there is still plenty of proof of award-winning green-fingered talents.

The High Green in Bloom group has been honoured in Yorkshire in Bloom 2013’s It’s Your Neighbourhood category.

Judges said the group – described as ‘developing’ – has made excellent progress in two years.

They said: “The number of planters along Wortley Road and the junction with Mortomley Lane is a splendid example of what can be done by committed and enthusiastic volunteers.”

High Green Methodist Church won a gold rose award in its own right. Judges said: “The visual impact of the gardens around the church was stunning.”
