Barnsley is streets ahead when it comes to revamping its centre.
Work to transform paved areas in the heart of the town centre is set to get under way this summer after contractors have been appointed.
The streets in the Eldon Street and Market Hill areas will be completed in York stone and granite and new street lighting and furniture will also be installed.
It will take around 11 months to finish the scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund Programme.
Coun Roy Miller, Barnsley Council’s cabinet spokesman for development, said: “This work continues the invigoration of the town centre, which will benefit from the new scheme’s considerable financial funding.
“Making these areas even more inviting will only increase the town centre appeal.”
Businesses have been contacted ahead of the work start date in June.
