A family had a lucky escape after high winds brought a large tree crashing down into their garden.

The birch tree fell from the boundary of a neighbouring garden into a property on Twentywell Drive in Bradway, Sheffield.

Mandy Brown, her partner Huseyin Dusunmez and their little boy Ali, four, were asleep when storms felled the tree.

They woke on Friday morning to discover the fallen trunk lying across their lawn.

Huseyin, aged 29, said he estimated the tree was 35 metres tall, and had missed their conservatory by only a metre.

Garden furniture and fittings were broken.

He said: “It must have happened in the early hours because we didn’t hear it, but we found the tree in our garden when we woke up.”

A tree surgeon was due to attend to assess the best way to remove the fallen tree.
