Staff at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Edenthorpe, Doncaster, presented a community grant of £150 towards the cost of equipment for a sensory garden at Heatherwood School yesterday.
The pupils respond mainly to sensory experiences and activities, such as noises, smells, and glistening objects in the sensory garden, which is now in need of a revamp.
The Sainsbury’s Community Grant scheme to help charitable groups is funded by sales of bags for life, in line with plans to reduce by 50 per cent the number of plastic carrier bags the store gives away.
Store manager Andy Firth said: “Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can do as much as we can to support it. When we heard about Heatherwood School we were really pleased to be able to help.”
