'Stockbrokers, solicitors and doctors shopping at 99p Store'
THE credit crunch may be biting hard at the heels of High Street traders – but a chain of shops with outlets in Sheffield and Barnsley claims to be going from strength to strength.
Such has been the surge in the 99p Store brand that it reports 20 per cent growth in the last 12 months.
And a survey by the store reveals it's not only hard-up and poorly-paid people who are shopping there.
The survey claims some of its 600,000 weekly customers at 70 UK stores are stockbrokers, solicitors, accountants and doctors.
Hussein Lalani, 99p Store's commercial director, said: "When we opened our first UK store at the start of the Millennium our customers were bargain hunters. Now they come from every sector of society."
The chain aims toopen 30 more outlets this year.
