IT will be spoons all round in Edale over the weekend.
That’s because the Peak District village will host the first ever international festival of wooden spooncarvers from Friday until Sunday when 150 carvers from eight countries will turn trees into spoons using razor sharp axes and knives.
There will also be spoon Olympics including an egg and spoon race where you first have to carve your spoon and a rice krispie eating contest where competitors will put their spoon design to the test.
There will be ceremonial burning of badly designed shop bought spoons and a gallery of hundreds of inspirational spoons gathered from collections across the globe including many not seen before in the UK.
Spoon teachers are coming from Sweden, the USA and Holland as well as the best UK carvers. Spoonfest is the brainchild of Barn ‘The Spoon’ Carder and Edale’s own Robin Wood.
Barn said: “Someday every household will have a hand carved spoon.”
