Stepping out helps charity

Disability charity Mencap gained from the generosity of Co-operative employees after a store-to-store walk.

The 16.8-mile hike, between the Mansfield Road and Richmond Road stores in Sheffield, took participants around six hours to complete - with warm weather making things tough.

Mencap, Co-operative’s Charity of the Year, has also benefited from a number of other events at its Sheffield store.

They have included a superheroes day at the Constable Road store, Gleadless, in which staff members ran a raffle and tombola in full fancy dress.

In total, the stores managed to raise £3,000, with £800 collected by a single employee, Joan Mazzie of Gleadless Road.

The money will go towards Mencap’s Inspire Me programme, which works with 16-25 year olds with learning disabilities to provide a range of activities along with training and employment opportunities.
