A Sheffield Steelers fan found an unusual way to meet one of her idols – when he cut her hair for a cancer charity.

Jade Fox, aged 11, who goes to Westfield School in Sothall, had her locks chopped by Canadian ice hockey player Drew Fata before their game against Belfast Giants at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena in Attercliffe.

The ‘number three’ length cut raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Reseach UK, including a £500 donation from Sheffield Window Centre, which sponsors the Steelers.

Jade watches games with Beighton-based mum Ruth, and was inspired to do the fundraising as she knows someone undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer.
