OLYMPIC star Dorothy Hyman gave her backing to organisers of South Yorkshire’s own Paralympic-style event which is taking place in the spring.

The Cudworth-born runner, who won silver and bronze medals in the 1960s, was star guest at a fundraising dinner for the Barnsley Disability Games, and brought her Olympic torch to the event in Dodworth.

Another guest was Michelle Oglesby, Drone Valley Rotary Club vice-president and a wheelchair tennis player.

The dinner was organised by Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, which is putting on the disability games.

Kathy Markwick, club spokeswoman,, said: “We had a fantastic night.”
