Star trio shine at newspaper awards

TWO of The Star’s editorial team are celebrating after being handed top awards.

The pair were recognised at a prizegiving ceremony held by the newspaper’s parent company, Johnston Press, as a reward for hardworking regional newspaper staff.

Sport writer Richard Fidler was given the sports journalist of the year accolade, while Gary Cranmer-Bills – whose job is devising eye-catching layouts and front pages – picked up the editorial design award.

Meanwhile Ben Farina, who works in the call centre on York Street, Sheffield, was named Best Recruitment Sales Agent.

Ashley Highfield, Johnston Press’ chief executive, said he was ‘delighted with the whole evening’.

He said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to recognise all the great performances that are helping to drive us forward as a company.”

The event – the Johnston Press Group Awards – happened at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough.
