INTERNATIONAL novelist, lawyer and investment banker Stephen Maitland-Lewis has launched a literary prize at the Sheffield school that first encouraged his love of words.
Stephen, the author of acclaimed Holocaust saga Emeralds Never Fade, was a pupil at Broomhill independent school Westbourne in the 1960s.
Now based in Beverly Hills, California, he has contacted Westbourne to re-establish links with former headmaster Peter Waterfield.
And he was so delighted with the assistance the school gave him in making contact with Mr Waterfield and his wife Rosemary, that he has now sponsored an annual creative writing prize. The Waterfield Prize will be presented for the first time in July.
