SHEFFIELD’S ‘Man with the Pram’ has resurrected the famous ‘Star Walk’ – to celebrate his 74th birthday.
John Burkhill, of Richmond, said: “We both made it to 74, so it seemed appropriate to do it one last time.”
It has been 13 years since the annual 12-mile charity walk, which saw thousands of Sheffielders take part, finished after a 74-year run.
John’s famous pram-pushing tradition began by accident on the starting line more than two decades ago, when a competitor pulled a muscle and was unable to push a pram he had intended to take round the course, so John took it for him.
John, who was awarded a British Empire Medal in the recent New Year Honours, said: “The pram became my trademark and people began throwing money in it.
“Walking that route again will bring back wonderful memories - if I can remember the way.”
