Stannington band among world's top brass
SOME people have every right to blow their trumpet.
Take the members of Stannington Brass Band, who have just broken into the top 100 ranked brass bands in the world.
The rankings are published by the banding website 4barsrest and include contesting bands from across Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand and Scandinavia as well as from the UK.
For the first time in its history the Stannington troupe has also established itself as the premier band in Sheffield, for being the city's only current representative in the Yorkshire Area Championship Section.
Members are now preparing for their Spring Concert at the Lomas Hall, Stannington, on Saturday when they will showcase a versatile repertoire with a programme incorporating classical and traditional music with more contemporary pieces from TV and movies.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will also feature the Stannington Brass Training Band led by conductor Lindon Bolt. Tickets are 6, or 5 for concessions from Stannington Hardware or by calling 0114 230 1873.
