When many people locally are struggling to make ends meet and the impacts of the spending cuts are starting to be felt, it defies belief that politicians and business leaders are calling for the scrapping of the 50p tax rate.
Only the wealthiest 1 per cent of the population actually earn enough to pay the 50p rate. When others are struggling to pay their bills and heat their homes, it is morally indefensible for the wealthy to complain about paying their fair share of taxes.
Politicians can’t say that ‘we’re all in this together’ and then support tax cuts for the already rich. I hope others will join me in writing to our local MP to call on them to stand up for a fair tax system in the UK.
