Staff at Sheffield’s Goodman Sparks laundry and dry cleaners are taking up the St Luke’s Hospice leap year challenge and using this year’s extra day to launch a 2012 Olympic Shirt-athon.

Starting on Wednesday, February 29, the aim is to wash, dry and press 2,012 shirts for customers by the end of March.

It costs £1.95 per shirt and for every shirt processed the Ecclesall Road shop will donate £1 to the Whirlow hospice.

There will be no dropping out until the finish line is reached, with a bottle of champagne awaiting the lucky owner of the 2,012th shirt, and a cheque for £2,012 heading to St Luke’s.
