THE £5 million cut in funding for council tax benefit should not be passed on to Sheffield’s poorest residents, Green party councillors have urged.

They called on Sheffield Council to ‘share the effects across people of all incomes’ and make alternative savings.

The Greens also welcomed ruling Labour members’ plans to ensure all council staff receive at least a £7.20 ‘living wage’ – but called for people working for council contractors to also receive the improved conditions.
