An AMATEUR sports club in Sheffield has received a grant which will allow it to hold coaching sessions in dozens of schools.
Sheffield Hatters Basketball Club has received £1,000 from the Cash 4 Clubs scheme, which saw 20 clubs from across the UK receive almost £12,500.
The Hatters, based at All Saints School, Granville Road, near Sheffield city centre, is a women-only club which caters for all ages and levels of ability.
The club aims to invest the money in coaching young people.
Betty Codona, committee member at the Hatters, said: “Basketball is the third most popular sport with young people in the country, but we want to get more females playing.
“To ensure this happens in Sheffield, we will use our £1,000 Cash 4 Clubs grant to run a programme of taster sessions across 35 schools.”
Cash 4 Clubs is funded by Betfair, the world’s biggest betting exchange, and Sports-Aid.
