A £2.6 million investment for disabled athletes will help increase participation among less-abled people, according to South Yorkshire Sport.

Sport England has revealed that British Blind Sport, Cerebral Palsy Sport, the Dwarf Sport Association UK, UK Deaf Sport and British Wheelchair Sport will share £1.1 million.

An additional £1.5 million of Government funding has been awarded to the English Federation of Disability Sport to enable it to promote participation in disability sports.

Bruce Kelsey, director of South Yorkshire Sport, which funds disabled sports groups using Sheffield’s top facilities for training, said: “An on-going goal is to widen access and increase participation for disabled and minority groups, so this additional funding is welcomed.”
