Sports bar? This will be a pub for the community

With reference to the letter concerning the Sportsman Inn at Norton Lees becoming a Sports Bar. This is news to me as the new tenant/business owner!

The Sportsman is undergoing a £300,000 revamp and will open on November 18 as a community pub, offering food, live entertainment and sports shown on new TVs.

The focus of The Sportsman will be looking after the community with many drinks and food deals such as kids eat free on Mondays, pensioners fish and chips offer on Fridays and traditional Sunday lunches.

Unfortunately, the snooker table will be removed due to a lack of interest and will be replaced by a pool table for the pool team who play on Wednesday evenings.

Your letter writer refers to Mr Qs being on Chesterfield Road and I remember this. I also remember my other three pubs: The White Lion at Heeley which has become a great cask ale and live music venue, Champs Spots Bar and Grill (formally the Pomona) which is now one of the best and busiest sports bars in the North and The Prince of Wales that was shut for three months before it was transformed into a busy community local.

These pubs have created 45 full and part time jobs during the worse economic downturn in living memory.

I wish the current Sportsman snooker team all the best and hope they re-locate to another venue.
