A spoof South Yorkshire 'news' website which tricked Facebook users with a story of a naked man running amok at Doncaster railway station is not connected to the Doncaster Free Press.

South Yorkshire News Online, which has a Facebook page with more than 3,500 fans, describes itself as the "only online news service you can trust."

Stories published on the page are intended for humour and have been shared across Facebook in South Yorkshire by users believing them to be true news stories.

Yesterday, a story about a naked man doing gymnastics on top of a train at Doncaster railway station was shared more than 1,000 times across social media with many falling for the hoax.

We would like to make it clear that the website and Facebook group is totally unconnected to the Doncaster Free Press, Sheffield Star, Doncaster Star, South Yorkshire Times, Epworth Bells, Thorne and District Gazette, Sheffield Telegraph and all our associated websites.

You can keep up to date with all the news in South Yorkshire at our websites and in print.
