A SPONSORED walk taking place in Tickhill tomorrow will raise money to fund essential refurbishment work at the parish church.
St Mary’s has been offered a substantial grant from English Heritage towards a programme of work to preserve the fabric of the church for future generations.
The work now required is necessary to safeguard the medieval stained glass, carry out further essential repairs to the masonry and to preserve important monuments on the tower and within the church.
The total cost of the work is in the region of £195,000 and the church will need to raise around £70,000 of it.
The sponsored walk, one of a number of fundraising events taking place over the next couple of months, will launch the Conserving the Future Heritage Appeal.
It starts from the church between 2pm and 2.30pm and follows a 3.5 mile route along footpaths to Styrrup and back, with a stop at Styrrup Hall Golf Club.
The church will be pleased to share sponsorship with the walker’s own favourite charity and they can sign up on the day.
