A NEW state-of-the art cycle speedway track is getting its official opening at a Sheffield sports centre today.
The track is being unveiled at the Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, in Meadowhead, by former Premier League referee Uriah Rennie and Lord Mayor of Sheffield Coun Sylvia Dunkley.
The sport is an intense form of cycling in which riders race around a track in short contests which often involve physical contact.
Home to cycle speedway club the Sheffield Stars, the new track has been funded with a £50,000 grant from British Cycling and Biffaward.
Sheffield Stars is one the largest clubs of its kind in the country.
