COMMUNITY Speed Watch volunteers have been carrying out checks in Bradwell and Curbar to try to stop motorists driving too fast.
They joined officers from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team to monitor the speed of traffic and found 16 motorists breaking the 40mph limit.
Community Speed Watch was set up in response to residents’ concerns about speeding and to give local people a chance to work alongside officers on road safety issues.
Any drivers caught breaking the limit are sent a letter to inform them about the check, to raise awareness of the local limits and to warn them that if they continue to speed, they risk a fine and penalty points on their driving licence.
The scheme has been running in the Hathersage area since November 2010.
