Give Rascism the red card at Barnsley FC John Hendrie with Buck Rees McClure Leoni Adcock and Bethany ross,

FORMER football star John Hendrie was quizzed by 100 Barnsley youngsters about kicking out racism from the sport.

The ex-player visited Barnsley FC – where he finished his career and was manager after also representing Newcastle United and Leeds United – as part of the Show Racism The Red Card awareness campaign.

Pupils from primary schools across the town also had the chance to meet current Barnsley stars John Stones and Rob Edwards in the event.

Hendrie is an ambassador of the campaign to educate against racism through using top footballers to highlight the issue.

A spokesman for Barnsley FC said: “There were around 100 youngsters who attended the event.

“John Hendrie fielded questions from the kids about racism, they said what experiences they had had in general and what they thought of it.

“It was basically a question and answer session for primary school youngsters in Barnsley.

“They seemed to really enjoy the day and also had the chance to meet the players, get autographs from them and have their pictures taken.”
