South Yorkshire ‘Tour Makers’ sought

AN ARMY of volunteers is set to be recruited for when the Tour De France’s Grand Départ takes place in Yorkshire next year.

Gary Verity, Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, said the idea is inspired by the success of the ‘Games Makers’ initiative at the London 2012 Olympics – some 70,000 people were recruited to help the games run smoothly.

The Grand Départ is set to involve two legs within Yorkshire, one of which could include Sheffield and South Yorkshire, although the exact routes have not yet been decided.

Mr Verity said: “We are looking for a team of passionate volunteers, who will help us create the best Grand Départ in the history of the Tour De France.”
