A TEENAGER left with serious injuries after the car he was travelling in hit a telegraph pole has died in hospital.

The 18-year-old suffered head, spine and lung injuries in the smash, which happened on the A6021 Wickersley Road.

Two other teenagers were also hurt in the crash, which happened when their blue Audi A3 left the road as they travelled from Brecks towards the Stag roundabout.

Police said the car appeared to lose control on a right-hand bend near the junction with Bentfield Avenue.

The car collided with a telegraph pole, coming to rest on its roof on top of a boundary stone wall just before 11.30pm on April 6.

The 18-year-old, from Rotherham, died on Thursday at Rotherham District General Hospital. The Audi driver, aged 19, and another passenger, 15, both from Broom, sustained minor head injuries.

n Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle just before the collision should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1260 of Friday, April 6.

Parkinson’s pledge

SHEFFIELD-based regional Euro MP Linda McAvan marked World Parkinson’s Day by joining fellow MEPs to sign a pledge in the European Parliament.

The politicians have committed to raising awareness of the condition and working to increase the amount of EU funding allocated to research into the disease.

Motorway works

WORK to upgrade traffic signals at busy South Yorkshire motorway junctions will continue for a fortnight.

Work takes place at junctions one and two of the M18 at Bramley between 8pm and 6am nightly until April 20.
