Police chiefs in South Yorkshire have issued security advice to Christmas shoppers.

They are urging shoppers to take extra care when withdrawing cash and are reminding people to avoid leaving their wallets, purses or phones on display.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Many of us will have started our Christmas shopping, and as the shops get busier people are asked to be vigilant when heading out.
"Don’t leave your bag, wallet or phone unattended. If you have a bag, make sure the clasp is facing inwards and all pockets and zips are closed.
"Be aware of who’s around you at the cash point and be discreet with cash. Avoid counting it openly in the street or in the bank foyer.
"Be aware of your belongings, particularly in busy areas Keep your phone out of view when you’re out and be aware of your surroundings.
"Property mark your phone so it can be returned if found and download a phone finder app and use a PIN code.
"If you think something is suspicious in a bank or shop, alert staff members."
