A MAN found dead on the M18 motorway in South Yorkshire was a 24-year-old who is believed to have jumped from a bridge, say police.
Officers are appealing for information about the tragedy, which closed the motorway for some time at junction one, near Bramley, Rotherham.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “On Saturday, December 29, at about 3.20am the 24-year-old man was on the motorway bridge at junction 1 on the M18 southbound and it appeared he jumped off the bridge onto the road below.
“The man landed in lane two of the motorway and was struck by a Ford Fiesta, driven by a 29-year-old woman.
“The man from Bramley, Rotherham sustained fatal injuries. The 29-year-old woman was from Killingworth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and she was not reported to have been hurt.”
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man on the bridge to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 180 of 29 December.
