South Yorkshire man charged with rape of woman aged 63

A South Yorkshire man has been charged in connection with the alleged rape of a 63-year-old woman in Barnsley.

Michael Nicholas Kirk, aged 26, of Belmont Avenue, Smithies, Barnsley, appeared at the town’s magistrates court charged with one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

Emergency services were called at around 11pm on Saturday, September 26 after reports a 63-year-old woman had been raped at a property in the Smithies area of Barnsley.

Kirk has been remanded into custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court at a later date.

The woman is receiving support from specialist officers.
