Two South Yorkshire landlords have been ordered to tidy up their properties after allowing them to become eyesores.
Sandip Singh Sangha, aged 46, and 47-year-old Jaspal Kaur Sangha, both of Brentwood Close, Hoyland, Barnsley, were also fined for failing to comply with a notice requiring them to make the properties on Upper Hoyland Road, Hoyland, secure and to tidy up the appearance of both the homes and gardens.
The vandalised properties have fallen into a state of disrepair and attracted squatters – and at one point were converted into a £300,000 cannabis farm.
Coun Roy Miller, Barnsley Council’s cabinet member for development, environment and culture, said: “People will have to learn that letting their properties go to ruin attracts undesirable attention, which has a knock on effect for neighbours and the rest of the community.
“We will do all we can to prevent this from happening, and we have a catalogue of powers at our disposal to make sure it doesn’t.”
