a GIRL is in hospital with serious leg injuries today after she stepped out from behind a bus and was hit by a car.

Police said the eight-year-old stepped into the path of a silver Seat Leon on Bank End Avenue, Worsbrough, Barnsley, at 12.40pm on Sunday.

She was taken to Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where she remains today.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “It is believed the collision occurred when the eight-year-old girl stepped into the road from behind a parked bus, colliding with a silver Seat Leon, which was travelling towards Bank End Road.”

Witnesses to the collision should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 590 of September 2.
