Firefighters have teamed up with a food bank in Rotherham in a bid to reduce blazes in the town.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said that working with Rotherham food bank allows firefighters to give fire safety information to those who need it the most.

Food bank visitors are encouraged to refer themselves for a home safety check, where fire service staff visit homes and explain how to them safer.

They also fit smoke alarms.

Fire safety officers also hold regular drop in sessions, giving face-to-face safety and fire prevention advice to service users and their families.

Rotherham food bank is part of the Trussell Trust’s network of more than 400 across the UK.
