A South Yorkshire businessman who went missing on his mum’s birthday over two weeks ago has been found dead in a beck.
The body of Mohan Singh, who was known as John, was found in the water on Tuesday in Bolton-upon-Dearne, Barnsley.
Mr Singh went missing on Monday, November, 26, after he left the Spar store on Quarry Hill Road, Wath-Upon-Dearne, Rotherham, where he works.
He left without taking his phone and did not contact anyone to let them know where he was.
He has a wife and children. They had been making appeals, urging for Mr Singh to make contact with them as soon as he was reported as missing. His family said that it was extremely out of character for him to disappear and to not let anyone know where he was.
In a previous statement appealing for him to come home they said: “He loves nothing more than spending time with his family, daughters and two dogs, which is why this behaviour is so out of character. We are desperate to know that Mohan is safe.”
“He is a shy man, but people who know him well, comment on his good sense of humour and his kind heart.”
They described him as “a well-respected member of the community” who should be busy working in the shop, which he ran for 17 years, in the run up to Christmas.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine how he died, but at this stage police officers are not treating his death as suspicious.
A man, who cannot be named, found Mr Singh’s body whilst out by the beck at around 3pm, and immediately alerted the authorities.
His family declined to make an official statement at the time, but said they wanted to thank the person who had found Mr Singh.
