MEMBERS of an Army battalion which recruits heavily across South Yorkshire were invited to lunch in the House of Commons.
The event for Third Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment - deploying to Afghanistan next month - hosted by former Paratrooper Dan Jarvis, now Barnsley Central Labour MP, and attended by Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher and Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton.
Mr Jarvis said: “I’m always delighted to welcome members of our armed forces to Parliament.
“The troops were given a guided tour of the parliamentary estate, followed by lunch and then tickets to watch oral questions to the Secretary of State for Defence, where I asked a question to the Defence Secretary about the departure from Afghanistan.
“My hope is our troops left knowing the whole of Parliament is behind them.”
