Soldier's mum helps heroes
A SHEFFIELD mum, whose soldier son is serving in Afghanistan, has raised hundreds of pounds for an appeal to help wounded troops.
Janet Broughton, aged 56, from Victoria Road, Stocksbridge, is the mother of Serjeant Jason Bloodworth, aged 38, who is serving with Third Battalion The Rifles, in Helmand Province.
Janet has collected around 600 from ticket sales after organising a fundraising raffle. Prizes have been donated by more than 20 businesses, including tickets for a Motown and soul show at the town's Venue community centre.
There is also a signed photograph of Deepcar boxer and soldier, Rifleman Ross Burkinshaw, of 3 Rifles.
Janet came up with the idea for the raffle - and after a bit of persuasion from her son she put her thoughts into action.
Money raised is being donated to 3 Rifles' own appeal to help pay for its soldiers who suffer injury and disability.
